    Hi,

I wanted to build a dictionary site for long time which will be English to English and English to Bangla and vice-versa.

What are the legal challenges behind this? I mean the content obviously will be from other dictionaries. Might not be the exact copy but the meaning of the words will be and are the same right?

So what are the issue I should be careful about?

    Thanks

That you cannot copy it from other dictionaries but will have to write it yourself unless you can find an old dictionary who's copyright has expired

Surely it will not be the exact copy. I will be defining the word in different words, and present it in different way. But even if use different words the meaning would be same (common sense). I think this is ok, Right? Because no one owns any word isn't it?

You can obviously be "inspired" by using a number of different sources but given the english dictionary currently has over 170,000 words (and their definitions) its no small under taking to try and use a large enough diversity of inspiration material to create the definitions without getting to the point of copying.
