Created Links and Need To Check SERPs

I have doing some undercover link building and I would like your information on the best way to check the sites position.

I have been told to try hidemyass, as well as http://www.diagnosticoweb.com but both give different results? Which is the most accurate as obviously they are based on different data centers.

Or are they both a guess? Let me know YOUR results and methods for this.
