Im currently using this theme called "gear" http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/gear. It only has 1 sidebar or 2 columns but I want to have a second sidebar on the left or 3 columns. Anybody knows how i can do that?

Also If I was to changed the theme to a 3 columns theme will it affect my posts and plugin that im using?

It really isn't all that easy to try to explain how to add another sidebar to any theme. There are so many variables involved because all themes are coded differently using different terms in the stylesheet.

First you need to make the whole theme wider, or make the existing columns more narrow to accommodate it. This may require editing the background image if the theme uses one. Then you need to add and style it in the stylesheet, change the functions.php file and add it to all the other themes files...

It can be done but might be easier to just find a theme with it already on it.

I also recommend using a new theme with the features that you want. Trying to code, basically, a whole new blog is more trouble than it's worth. Too many things can go wrong...you would certainly need a pro, and it could be expensive.

Save yourself a lot of time and aggravation. If you are willing to pay to have this done, why not just take a small percentage of what it would cost, and buy yourself a premium theme and just upgrade the entire blog ?

Since the theme you are using is a free one, you aren't out any money by changing, just adjust the colors on the new theme to your liking.
