Google Keyword Tool is a great resource for keyword research and it's free.

Keywordtracker and NobleSamurai offer a free trial period, but they just use Google data (while providing some additional services - that can be found elsewhere for free).

hi tobiah how are you :) yes definatly google keyword tool is a must... go to google and type in adwords keyword tool and it will appear...

some tips for keywords and choosing them ...

when you want to pick a keyword you want high search volume and low competition.... try to find searched terms ( keywords ) with over 10,000 searches and competition no higher than 200,000 this is not high but depending on experience any higher will be harder to rank for...

try to choose keywords that are buyer or action keyword for instance keywords with buy or learn or how to or need or cure or ... there are many but you see what i mean right ?...

then with every keyword you choose as a possible candidate go to google and see what the top 10 sites are ranking for that keyword...
things you want to check are the age of that site ... if the site has been up for years then it is going to be harder to rank for ... not impossible just harder..

you will want to check the page rank to that site if it has a high page rank it will be harder to rank above ... much harder...

you will want to check how many backlinks it has remember backlinks are very important to rankings and you will have to have more or better backlinks to beat it.

check if the site has the keyword in there url if so then this will be harder to beat...

check what types of backlinks it has fro instance if it is linked to loads of page ranked 5 or 6`s or edu and .gov`s then you will struggle...

these are just some of the things to look for when choosing keywords ... you see if the top ranking sites using your keyword

are none of the above then that is the keyword to go for :)...

a little more work at the start will be more rewarding for you and easier in the long run .... you may already know all this but i just thought it would help if you did not..

all the best louis d :) if you have any ? please ask away... i have left some stuff off here but it is late where i am .. lol ..will come and add some as i remember more :)

Google Adwords and so many other keywords research tools available for free. Keyword Discovery tool is another tool for analyzing keywords. You can see the number of hits for each keywords both local and global.
