Create a directory for yourself!

One of the best ways to get stable, secure, links to your website is to create them yourself. By creating a SEO-friendly directory you can command not only a lot of traffic, but a lot of popularity in search engines. There are numerous "directory list" websites like info.vilesilencer.com who control a large amount of traffic. Eg, for example info vilesilencer is currently under 10,000 at Alexa.com.

Once you have your directory online you can create your own site-wide listings as you please, and as the nature of directories is to have many pages this will create literally hundreds of backlinks for your desired website, or websites. With the SBD Directory Script's Quick Accept function, and submission filter, it's relatively quick to build and maintain your directory to a decent standard and differentiate it from a link farm.

    A tip:
You should maybe give a real name for your directory script (for the powered by link)
For example I have a category for your script at my directory tracker, but 'php directory script' is not really very descriptive.

Maybe you chose that title on purpose for SEO tactics, but I think branding should also be important.

I was actually considering this (building a directory to benefit my website) just the other day. If I were to do this, should the directory be located on a different IP than the website I am linking to in order to get the most benefit?

I am confused. I have a forum which I do not promote. This forum gets a lot of registrations all using website links. Some are dead, some are non-family friendly, and a lot are drug companies. I delete them if the user does not activate.

Should I keep these links for search engines rankings? I thought just the opposite. Too many links could be bad for rankings?

I do have a business directory, but it is only for business and services and I am not really looking for ranking benefits because of the directory. I would rather have quaility business and service listings.

    Q...

Those links, as outbound links from you site really do not add to your pr or link happiness.

In my experience, directories can be a good source of inbound links (especially if you don't recip) but a fantastic way of getting google friendly inbound links (after all, the name of the game) is to set up one of those huge "40 sites for $40" sites that were selling on the forums a few months ago.

They are quick to get page rank due to their size and rss feeds and when you create one in your category, and link it back to your sites sitewide, stand back and watch your inbounds pile up.
