I hope you can help me.

I've been tracking our company website on google for the last two months or so - and our site is flying around the serps.

I've been adding some new content (industry related, keyword optimised and indexable) and submitting the site to about 50-60 directories + gaining a couple of highly industry related PR5 links. At the PR update in january we went from 4 to 5.. so i assume Google doesn't dislike our site.

I've mainly tracking our 3 mayor keywords... These are the results:

    Keyword1
    January:
    122 | 97 | 98 | 95 | 102 | 96 | 101 | 104 | 92 | 79 | 79

    February:
    136 | 116 | 136 | 121 | 106 | 250 | 250 | 211 | 149 | 142 | 168 | 176

    March:
    250 | 222 | 217 | 218 | 250 | 250

    Keyword2
    January:
    60 | 58 | 47 | 47 | 47 | 46 | 51 | 51 | 48 | 41 | 43 | 43 | 43

    February:
    25 | 30 | 20 | 92 | 90 | 77 | 43 | 7 | 9 | 36 | 38

    March:
    98 | 7 | 7 | 8 | 66 | 65

    Keyword3
    January:
    86 | 74 | 64 | 65 | 70 | 71 | 72 | 70 | 65 | 65 | 70 | 90 | 74

    February:
    79 | 70 | 51 | 54 | 52 | 46 | 41 | 39 | 38 | 54 | 41

    March:
    49 | 41 | 41 | 42 | 47 | 47

Some of the mayor changes in the results are 1 or 2 days in between.... and i'm baffled. What is going on?

if you keep changing your site Google has to keep reevaluating it. best thing to do is just keep building backlinks. depending on the type of site frequent changes can actual lower your rankings until google reevaluates those changes

How old is your site? Even though you have a high PR it really is only part of the problem. You could try a Press Release with PRweb it may help stabilize your keywords. Make sure you use their SEO options and include the keywords in the hyper links.

Other suggestions... Make sure you Digg each page, and use all the other social bookmarking sites.

Honestly a lot of change in SERPS is not unusual. Do you have a lot of affiliate outbound links? What is the format of your site? Are there a lot of graphics or anything that makes it hard for a SE to read you site. Check your Cache at Google for your pages to see what the text looks like.

Have you run a report to show the comparison of your site to the top 10 sites for your main keyword.

    Good luck

    Thanks for the quick replies.

The domain is about 9 years old, fairly well optimised technically speaking and we have about 5500 backlinks according to yahoo. So the basis is there - and yeah we have a lot of outbound as we link to all of our customers' websites.

But i'll keep doing what i do, i know it works because i've had succes before with other websites - i just haven't seen this sort of jumpy SERP behavior before.

    Again thanks for the replies.

I am seeing the same mate for a bunch of my sites even though they are first page, some of them are new but some are 2 years old. It's very frustrating. I am based in UK if that may be a factor
