Crawl Errors

    Hi,

    We have hosted a new website three weeks before and its showing more than 4000 crawl errors all are 404 how to recover from it.

    Did you mean the report in your Google Webmaster Tools? If yes, I would recommend to check these first.

    1. Are those 404 pages do exists when you access them yourself? If yes then it should not be 404 unless some error on your site. If no then you have a few choices to get them solved.
    - 310 redirect all 404 pages to homepage
    - Remove those pages by send request via Google Webmaster Tools

    2. If your URL has been rewritten then check .htaccess to see if you can find something wrong on Apache rewrite function. (I do assume you are using Apache / PHP / Mysql hosting)

    3. Check if your site using sessionid. If no then it's fine. If yes I would recommend you to remove those sessionid funciton and pretend not to use it again. Sessionid does always cause a problems to Googlebots. Even Googlebots can handle good on sessionid but they are most likely to avoid index those pages or does de-index later.
