Crappy Conversion Rates!

Discussion in 'General Business' started by hookah, Jan 17, 2005.

I've recently (Dec 20, 2004) launched my new ecommerce site Hookah Hub (www hookahhub dot com) with moderate success.

Within this first month I'm averaging 1-2 sales/day, but I'm now up to 200 unique visitors/day. This is only a .5-1% conversion rate; which I'm very unhappy with.

Please review my site for suggestions as to how I may improve my conversion rates; and items I may be missing or can improve upon. Thank you for any help/advice you can provide.

Don't know about anyone else, and it depends on product of course, but 1% is a pretty standard conversion on my sites. Keep in mind that there are lots of surfers that aren't serious buyers. How many commercial sites have you visited without buying? That doesn't mean improvements can't be made.... but keep in mind that many just aren't buyers.

I added some stuff to my "bag" and then hit "ckeckout" and my bag was cleared.

So it isn't even possible for me to order if I wanted to.

Your site is very slow for me. That could lose potential customers-- get a real web hosting service. It looks like you're using bluehosting.com, who has packages at $7/mo.

1% isn't a horrible conversion on the web. It entirely depends on the product, but 1-5% is considered normal for visitor->buyer conversion rate. Also, beware of the 'visitor count', as depending on your webstats program, they could be severely bloated.

I would have to disagree with that. 1% conversion can be pretty standard overall, depending upon the category in question. I have noticed that overall conversions around 1% are pretty standard.

However, if you have any method of tracking the various sources of your traffic right through to the checkout page, you will see that it's possible to achieve conversions of 5-10% (or even higher) with targeted traffic.

I think your conversion rate all depend on where you place your ads
If you target visitors, you may get a bit higher conversion ratio

Good site... Overall navigation was fine. However, when clicking checkout, it takes a much longer time to load compared to the rest

Yeah, so like I said, 1% is very low.

But I agree, it does have a lot to do with the type of product/service being sold.
