Crap Directories - Why?

I have today spent some time working through my keywords in MSN.

I have some pretty good rankings Page 1 for the majority of keywords.

Trouble is that I am being beaten down to the middle of the page by 2 or 3 pretty shabby 'directories' specifically set up for Google Adsense.

    Why bother?

One of the sites wants £295.00 to advertise on their 'directory'!!

    They must be joking!

And guess what there is no paid advert on their site just Adsense!!

You are more likely to get first page first position if you go for MSN small business directory listing. It provides 10 urls for $49. Also all the sites found in the links of the submitted website seem to show well in the result.

If the results are not good, I think we should blame MSN, not the people that have managed to rank on MSN. After all, this is an SEO forum. ;)

Sure this is an SEO forum but whats more important?

A good website with good information or a 'clever' seo putting crap alll over the net??

I think most of these have a limited lifespan. Their high positions in the rankings are often ephemeral. They come and go, rarely stay. I think most of the search engines are on to them, it's often a matter of time.
