Does anyone know of a good mod where you can create a craigslist-style classifieds forum within Vbulletin?

craigslist is very simple and clean that is why many people like it. VB is nothing like that i think if you want to look like craigslist you need a theme.

You are right, but custom themes in vB can be a pain to deal with after every vB update. I guess the only option in vBulletin is using a regular forum with "classifieds" threads. Thank you.

What kind of features are you looking for in a classifieds mod? We're currently working on a vBulletin marketplace plugin that may interest you.

You should try a simple php forum based on flat files. Just search for "simple flat files php forum". Then you can easily modify it to whatever you want.
