I've been trying out some new marketing methods and I wanted to get some tips and advice from you DPer's. I've never used craigslist as a method of advertising before but what are some of the pros and cons? At least one of the cons I can see right off the bat is the phone verification system and the duplicate posting protection. I'm trying to cover every city in America but I get 5 posts and it locks me out of my account, I have around 4 verified accounts but that's only 20 cities so I was wondering a couple things. Firstly, when does the account lock wear off and how often can you make duplicate posts and secondly, is there any way to create accounts without going through the phone verification? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Hello, Success on Craigslist depends on where you're posting...Many major US cities such as LA, Chicago, Boston, New York City, etc. let your ads stay up for only 7 days. Ads in these major metro areas get pushed off the page pretty quickly. Here's an option you may want to consider: Try posting an ad in 2nd tier cities within a major geo area. I'll use Chicago for an example. There's areas outside of Chicago such as Peoria, IL. Ads posted in these 2nd tier cities stay up for a whopping 45 DAYS! So post daily in some major metro areas, and then post every 30 days outside metro areas in many of the smaller outlying cities so that those ads get indexed due to staying up for 45 days.
45 days ad on Craigslist is good. But, what is superb is to post ads on Freeadstime.com, where it stays for life time, at least for now.
The main thing is to make sure your add stays up for as long as possible. akori's suggestion is quite good because this way you ensure a good position for your adds.
You will get 1 hit on BP for every 10 you get on CL and the quality is 10 times as good also. To answer you questions the lock etc wears off 24 hours later. If you posted a ad at 10AM 11am and 12am you can post again the next day at 10am 11am and 12am etc. The only section that i know of that limits your posts is the services. There you can only post 3 ads in a 24 hour period. We post about 2000 ads a day on craigslist and in some sections we can post 10 to 15 ads a day on one PVA. The only problem with the services is the best price we can find on quality phone numbers is around $2.85 a month and the three limit is a killer. Before anyones asks we do not have a method or source for accounts and we do not sell them. We basically use all we can get ourselves.
Backpage is good for traffic but the conversion rates are MUCH better through craigslist. Thats from my experience anyways. As others suggested, its best to outsource your craigslist posting to a company who specializes in it.
i havent used classifieds in a while but one bit of advice i was told was to target citys that arent too big like new york or london they have lots of posts and yours will get lost in the noise

I have had success with a small investment... here is how I did it. Go to Dollar General and buy a prepaid cell phone for about $10. The Verizon phones give you a $10 credit for usage. When you activate the phone, get a number in the area code of the city you want to post in. Then create a new craigslist account and use the new cell phone to verify the account. When you make a little money, reinvest in another phone or two. That is just the basic run down of it... tweak it how you feel best.
Craiglist responders sure are a good way to market your products. Which as mentioned by Craigs007 are pretty good for any city..
If you need Craigslist account you have to pay and get access but this is channel is the hottest way to lead generation.
