CraigsList and Ebay Sued Each Other!

Online ad site Craigslist has filed a countersuit against business rival eBay, alleging it used its minority stake to steal trade secrets.

In a complaint filed in a California court, Craigslist challenged allegations made by eBay in April.

EBay is suing Craigslist to "safeguard its four-year financial investment", claiming Craigslist executives took actions to dilute eBay's stake.

The countersuit says eBay violated trademarks and used misleading advertising on Google to run ads for its rival Kijiji site that appeared to be Craigslist ads.
The lawsuit demands that eBay restore all shares of Craigslist owned by eBay or for the court to require eBay to divest its holdings in Craigslist.
The suit also asks for a cut of eBay profits and for punitive damages.

Both are giants of the Internet in their own rights, it seemed common for these giants to sue and counter sue each other :)

You should consider that ebay = paypal.

Ebay got several classified ads sites like Kijiji, gumtree and such. They also have about 20% share of CraigsList.

If Ebay can somehow dominate CraigsList, they would dominate the whole classified ads marketplace. Makes sense why they are fighting each other.

I feel paypal is even getting bad anymore. After a fake charge from a stolen credit card from a customer the customer retried it by disputing the charge and paypal tried to hold my company responsible for it. The charge was for around $700 which isn't a small hunk of change to any business.

Wow.. I like this kinda stuff. Wish I could attend the court proceedings. Craigslist is OFCOURSE better than lowly Ebay.. though they aren't even in the same field.

Whatever happens its a win win for both. Ebay gonna have publicity for Kijiji and Gumtree; CraigsList for itself:)

    "wasnt craiglist created before ebay?"

Its about Ebay's share in Craigslist, not about an original service

how does craigslist make money? i never see ads on their site..

They charge $25+ for employment ads in big cities

That should generate a nice chunk of money...

Nothing in comparison to what Ebay rakes in a day but nothing to shy away from.

Its a tough call, they both have their issues. Ebay with the ridiculous fees and Craigslist giving the ability for relevant ads to be flagged and removed too easily. Craigslist is tailored to local areas, Ebay can show products to multiple areas at the same time. Craigslist is geared to private sellers, Ebay is saturated with too many white label companies.... Just my 2 cents.
