CPU/RAM resources

    Hello

    My host has just suspended my account due to "CPU or RAM resource overload" (according to the guy from Live Support). How can that be? I didn't do anything out of the ordinary to trigger that!

    Shit. Any other potential causes?

    Hard to say without knowing your site, your stats (peaks?), what your site offers (Full length films? File sharing? CPU intensive scientific calculations?) and all that.

    Study your stats package.

    Either that or you forkbombed the terminal.

    (main() {for(;;)fork();}) :)

    Or:

    while(1 > 0)
    {
    fopen(www.milliondollarhomepage.com);
    }

    PHP:
    A nice infinite loop doing a heavy task can bog down your server as well.

    Thanks. I'm still waiting for the support system administrator to answer. Americans are still asleep at this hour. Can't wait for the support team to have a coffee and find out what went wrong.

    Update: I communicated with the systm administrators and the told me that my account had to many hits which overloaded the RAM and lead to system crash.

    This allowed me to figure out what went wrong: I have a friend who is a software develloper, he wrote a program HyperYM (a kind of addon to Yahoo Messenger) which is pretty popular. Since he is a student, I hosted his site as an addon domain in my account (subdomain: numedecod.ro = "code name" in English).

    When the guy told me of too many hits eating up resources, I immediatly told my friend about that and he admitted that in his code lacked mysql_close (), of which he thought was not required. He usually gets on the average 20.000 hits/day - so this must have been the most likely cause of server RAM overload.

    So, now I'm waiting for the system admin to reply and to give us a second chance...
