Is cpm a REFLECTION of how much I earn for impressions, or does it DICTATE how much I earn from impressions?

It is how much you have earned per 1000 impressions. Bear in mind that most of your earnings will come from clicks - not CPM.

I beg to differ. Today one of my ads got 1,034 impressions, 0 clicks and I earned 4.43 . Therefore I should have a cpm of 0 right? Nope! My cpm was over 4.00.

If you have a lot of site targeting advertisers bidding for your ad space then you can sometimes earn more from impressions than what you would earn from clicks.

That makes more sense. I make the majority of my money through impressions. I still wonder if eCPM is a reflection of the money I earn per thousand impressions or does it dictate how much I will make from impressions?

as its adsense, and one day your ecpm could be $1, the next it could be 32c, its an indication of what your current earning per 1000 impressions is, not what your going to make for the next 1000 impressions.

Also even if an advertiser bids $4 cpm on your ads, doesnt mean your ECPM will be $4, its only $4cpm for every 1000 impressions of THAT advert.

Check CPM adverts, advanced reports -> Show data by "individual ads" -> Show targeting by ad type.
