CPM Advertising Question

A couple of questions about how CPM advertising works:

Lets say I only have CPM ads on my site. If a guy enters my site, and starts hitting the refresh button like mad (waiting for the CPM ad to load each time), will the affiliate program count that as an "impression"? And if not, will they ban me because some wacko started spamming "Refresh", and they think im faking?

And while we're on the subject, does anybody have a good CPM (only) affiliate program to reccomend to me?

    Shalom.
Like adsense has click fraud mechnisms, CPM agencies have similar products.
For example, if there are more than 5 impressions in 5 seconds from the same IP, all impressions are deleted...

    yesh mevin? :)

It is a good way to get yourself banned from a cpm network...

Yes they will know it is you.

I have cpm ads on my site, probably do about 30 page loads a day, and never have a problem... But I do not click "refresh".

Basically the point is this... if you have a CPM network that pays you enough, that it is worth your while to keep on clicking "refresh" then you should not risk it.

Same thing with payperclick ads... It is stupid to even try.

Before I start I'd like to say I do NOT plan on doing this xD This is just a general question about how these things work.

But lets say I'm browsing my own site. I need to do that, to make sure everything is working, or maybe check some stuff. Naturally whenever I click a link I make an "Impression"...is THAT "ok" with them? and do they have some way of knowing when it's ME or not?

Oh, and Chaos Trivia, 5 impressions in 5 seconds means a total shut down...but if I make 1 impression every 2 seconds? (5 impressions in 10 seconds) that will still count? Because if so people could still make alot of money out of these kinda things :p

Toda raba lecha derech agav <3

To be honest. If your going with CPM. You must be getting a few thousand visitors per day or more. Therefore your page views will only be a drop in the pond of the total views.

If your only getting a few visitors per day. Then yes you will make up most of the impressions. But in this case you shouldnt be using CPM anyway.

But you guys are saying, it is possible for a person to be his own CPM, as long as he doesn't hit "refresh" like mad? Cause people could generate a few bucks a day if they just site and browse their own sites once in a while

And I don't have my own site yet...I am just interested in how CPM thingies work.

There are both raw CPM and unique CPM. Raw CPM essentially means page loads containing the ad, although even then I'd guess most such networks do limit the amount of loads per user to a reasonable amount. Unique CPM means the unique visitors (per 24 hours, or other measure).

Even if you tried to, you would probably never be able to personally earn a few bucks a day, even with raw CPM ads. If the network didn't have some sort of a cap, then you'd probably just get banned. Plus, raw CPM usually pays next to nothing.

What do you mean by "raw CPM pays next to nothing".

    An impression is an impression...right?

I mean, if a person enters my site, and enters 25 pages while browsing...he will only count as 1 impression?

Just an example (numbers aren't real, just made up): you might get $1.00 raw CPM, compared to $4.00 unique CPM. Unique CPM pays more because it's more valuable to the advertiser.

If unique visitors are counted only once, then it doesn't mean every impression is a valid impression. Just like the same user can't click PPC ads 25 times. It depends on what kind of compensation plan the network is offering you. :)
