Hello Everyone This is my first post I have made to this forum, but I have been reading a lot of the posts here over the past few weeks and have to say this is a great forum. I am new to Adwords, I just started my first campain a few days ago and have a few questions if anyone could be kind enough to help me out. I have been trying to learn everything I can before getting started, but realize you can only learn so much by reading and just needed to get a campain going so I could learn by doing. I also have resorted to the fact that I am probably not going to make much or any money from my first few campains so Im chalking it up to paying for the learning experience, kind of an investment for the future Anyway I logged into my adwords account this morning to find that all my "min first page bids" have went up alot and I am not sure why. I have around 100 keywords (yes I know I need more) and while I am on a limited budget for learning I do have (or I did ) a first page position on some of my keywords. I will try and give you some of my stats so someone can give me a clue as to why this happened Campain A: Google = 3/clicks 382/imp 0.79% CTR SE Part= 5/clicks 81/imp 6.17% CTR Now I think I remember that SE Partners do not factor into CPC prices being altered due to CTR and only Googles does, is this correct? So I also remember that the CPC rate is based per keyword CTR so for example I have one adgroup that has a 2.07% CTR for just google (not including SE Part). Now I was under the impression that a 2% CTR was pretty fair to decent so why would my CPC go up on this adgroup, specificly the Keyword that has the good CTR? Oh and btw all of my QS for keywords are between 7/10 and 9/10, most of them are 8/10 Sorry for such a long post, but im still learning, Thanks in advance for all your help
how high is a lot? It can go up for many reasons, such as keyword irrelvance, poor landing pages, or under performing text ads Just because you have a 2% CTR does not mean its good. You competitor might have a 3% CTR... If you have a QS of 7 and above then your first page bid should be fair and market price for the keyword you are bidding on. many first time launched campaigns will start really low, but adjust in 24 to 48 hours as google spiders your page and starts collecting CTR data.
I see. Well when I said a lot for the increase, I guess its about 40 to 60 cent increase, which I guess doesn't sound like a lot but its twice what it was originally. I can understand that it can go up for keyword irrelvance, poor landing pages, but wouldn't my QS score go down then instead of remaining the same? Also a good point about the competitors CTR being higher than mine, I thought the CTR "average" was determined by the keyword history according to the position it showed up in, not the competitions CTR
40 cents to 60 cents is normal, it could just be natural fluctuations since your campaign is so new. You only need to worry when it jumps to $5 or $10 or more QS will not always go up or down as front page bids can fluctuate often based on competition bids as well. since your campaign is so new google does not know what your avg CTR will come out to, so usually they give you the benefit of the doubt, then adjust about 24 to 48 hours from launch
Well I only have about 4 or 5 keywords per group, so I guess around 20 or so adgroups. Would that be a big factor in it going up as well?
