You should always use phrase & exact match too.

    Split test where possible.

Stay away from broad match... it's like handing google all of your bank account access...

    Peace!!

Am a rookie and am using AdWords for the first time, however, the idea behind my campaigns is to get a better CTR rather than more impressions. This leads to better Quality Score, and better still - a highly targeted traffic. What I mean is that instead of building a huge Keyword list, I rather build a lot of ads (with similar copy but different themes), and then assign them different keywords. My mindset while building a campaign is not 'how to get more clicks' but instead 'how to keep non-buying people out'...

Sorry if this tip is too obvious for a lot of people over here,, but hey, it works for me. I tested it keeping a small daily budget of $5. Got 10 clicks in it, out of which 4 were converted.. Yay!! (obviously there were other factors too like landing page, offer pricing etc.)

cbogey88 : Thanks for the interesting tip. Since my campaign is based around the same strategy, this tip really helped.

just try to find more closely niche specific keywords - I use excel to help me with determining my keywords

    http://www.ianfernando.com/2007/use-excel-to-help-you-with-keywords/

since google provides you keywords - there may be high competition - I simply just average them out to determine my good keywords that are still popular and not that competitive. the ones that are not as competitive cost less and might have a better conversion rate

The people bidding more and making money are using adwords to build an opt in list and then mailing them later several times selling several different things. People buy from people they know before they buy from strangers. The dating niche is tough to crack unless you can sell to the people multiple times.

You need to make a quality score of your account higher... with higher landing pages... and at the same time bidding your keywords at low costs..and optimizing keywords with different matches and targeting options....

Try and test Ads, landing pages with A/B testing...

Yes the days of cheap clicks are long gone. Paid advertising has become more like a science, so the more time and effort you put into your campaigns, the more of a profit your going to see. There are plenty of ways to maintain a lot of clicks, but pay less, its called optimizing your campaign. Looking at CTR, Ads, campaign structure, ect ect. Then knowing which keywords to bid on and when. Another important factor is conversions, just because you get a lot of clicks from one keyword, you may get 0 conversions, for example some terms you want to try to stay away from are informational. He clicks your ad for some information, sees only thing he can do is sign up or buy, he leaves, you've still payed for his visit. So the key here, is to identify which keywords are converting the best, which ones not so well, and bid accordingly. In order to do that you need a pretty good analytics for your landing pages, so that you can see keyword specific data.

Other than this, theres not much else to say than clicks are just going to keep costing more and more every day. As more and more big players enter internet marketing they are chasing all the small guys away. And honestly just because a huge company spends millions upon millions in advertising, it doesn't mean they are actually turning a profit, but they are EXPANDING there brand name. So a profit isn't as important to them. I could see walmart spending millions, but make nothing, thats a good tax right off and still exposing their brand.

    Thanks for this insight!

Yes! That's exactly how it feels.

I have been practicing most of the tips you suggest:

    - Extremely targeted keyphrases
    - Yes! I have detailed analytics and track the exact source of all my sales
    - Yes! I spent literally months testing ads, CTRs, landing pages, etc!

    But... prices still go up!

And I think, you just described exactly why!

Yes! I think that advertising for brand awareness rather than conversion is a totally different game!

    To be followed!

Thanks to all you guys who responded so far! Learned a lot from this thread

Check adwords miracle, projectx ,dayjobkiller, adwords180, they are all in clicbank, also check keywordelite and affiliate elite.

If you are selling $19 products, you should be capturing name an email in your landing pages, give a free report , and follow up with messages about your product, find another 47 or 97 and after a week or so broadcast an special offer for the second product.
Find more products related to your niche maybe cds or dvds or seminars.

These products should be of good quality as the first one that you sold.

They should enhance , compliment the value of your previous products.

Anything that you sell after the first sale has zero cost to you.

Do your homework first in your niche, do as much research as you can, and post it a Word Press blog titled "your Niche" that advertise only your entry level product.

You could change your strategy and focus on building your list and move to even lower cost networks such as content across google, yahoo and msn. Google has improved their content network and I am seeing conversions at very very low costs. I would also agree with sem advance on better optimizing your keyword selection, ad group structure and landing pages.

I would concentrate on Search Network and would try to do everything to get the sales from there. I think about 80-90% of Adwords advertisers are using only Search Network, do you know why? Because content network, brings a lot of impressions, and not sales. You can make some sales on Content network, but again, I would switch it off

If you are choosing to use the content network, I highly recommend using the "placement performance" report. Less competition which is good and of course watch daily for results.

It's about the quantity and quality of your traffics, these two factor should go together in order to increase your sales.

I think I have a similar problem ... Google keeps increasing the minimum required bid for search... and so making my keywords "Inactive for Search"

Should I keep increasing my bids?
