    Hi,
    I got email from cpanel about 3 times now, here is the copy of that email

    --------------------------------------------------------------
    S.M.A.R.T Errors on /dev/sda
    From Command: /usr/sbin/smartctl -q errorsonly -H -l selftest -l error /dev/sda
    Please note the following marginal Attributes:
    ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE
    190 Unknown_Attribute 0x0022 064 044 045 Old_age Always In_the_past 36
    ----END /dev/sda--
    --------------------------------------------------------------

    Can anybody tell is it Cpanel bug?

    waiting for detailed reply.

    Regards.

    It could mean that the device listed (/dev/sda) has been slightly hotter at some point before the command was executed, than the manufacturer reccomends it be.

    190 = Typically the id of temprature attributes
    Unknown_Attribute = Typically the attribute name
    064 = current value, typically out of 100, higher is usually better
    044 = worst the value has been
    045 = manufacturers reccomended worst value, threshhold.
    Old_age = type of test
    Always = when this check is done
    In_the_past = When the failure ocured, threshhold was met/passed
    36 = I don't know

    Given the value at the time that command was run, you probably experienced a high load with alot of disk activity at some point. If you experienced an abnormal surge in traffic you may be able to ignore that the error.

    If you don't own the box you probably shouldn't have to worry about it, the techs in the physical location of the box should know about it too. Still send them an email with that message just in case though.

    If you own the box, or can run commands on the server as a superuser (sudo ...) it's probably a good idea to run a complete test on that device, you need to at least find out the make & model of the drive so you can trace that attribute id to a definate name.
    sudo smartctl --all /dev/sda

    There are numerous topics about this and this is believed to be a false positive related to the recent CentOS 4.6 update. It appears to be happening a lot with western digital dirves and specifically a few various models.

    You can read about it here: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=656974. There is also one on the cPanel forums as well and this is pretty wide spread so I highly doubt this many drives are failing.

    I wonder if the holidays are exposing a flaw in some WD harddrives.

    Schedule a scan, though as mentioned it isn't necessary but it reveals any errors with that drive.
