I not sure which one to choose i'm using cpanel now but i just want to know if plesk is better. Another question Redhat enterprise vs windows 2003 server standard edition or web edition
Well, Cpanel is definitely more popular, stick with something you are comfortable working with. As to the Linux and Windows questions, it depends on what your needs are. If they are mainly PHP/MySQL type sites then probably Linux should work fine for you. If you need ASP/ASPX for your sites apart from PHP/MySQL (without Mod Rewrite support) then the Windows server would work better for you. If it is a dedicated server then use what you are familiar with because how secure and how efficient the server is depends on you and your skill.
cPanel, IMO, is the better of the 2. Easier and friendlier, however, it all depends on what you are most comfortable with. I also find plesk slower to load and execute commands. Just my 2¢ tho. As for server software, again, that too is based on your preference, however, IMO, linux is easier to manage and safer (when it comes to viruses anyways).
Well, I guess for me, I find Linux to be really complicating when it comes to getting your hands dirty in shell and the error messages seems cryptic to me. But I guess it is just me since I am a Windows admin. In the end, it depends on what your OS preference and knowledge goes. Use one which you are comfortable and familiar with. Actually it is not true that a Linux server is safer or more secured, it is unsecured by default so under the hands of an inexperienced admin, it can be open to hacks and attacks.
cPanel on a Linux based server is definitely most common setup, and the only one I've ever used. I have no experience with Plesk, but Windows on a remote box has very little use to me. It's tough to break out of the norm when things are so streamlined online.
Cpanel on Linux is common and easy to operate . Persoanlly no experience with plesk and dont feel the need for switching to it
DirectAdmin I heard is not a bad option on Linux too. They are a lot cheaper and from what I understand is more stable than Cpanel. May not have as much features but something worth considering if you are buying the Control Panel license.
Cpanel is batter but if user are new with Hosting control panel plesk is easy to operate and understand.
Go with Cpanel. the problem with Plesk is that all development comes directly from them and there's almost no outside development, limiting you to what they will produce. Also, get linux. All my windows servers give me headaches all the time and linux is much more stable. If you want some securitiy added to your server go with www.ncmanage.com they are very good and have good prices.
I would pick plesk & windows server 2003 but unless you need to use ASP, windows media server or any other windows server specific technologies... you may be better off with *nix & cpanel
I've always used cPanel. Never tried Plesk... I love all of cPanels features though. Since you've been using cPanel, i'd say stick with it.
cpanel always, never used much of plesk had tried it before though.. cpanel interface is very easy to manage
I've used Plesk a lot in the past two years. I got fed up with CPanel. If you want to do ANYTHING outside of the cookie-cutter confines you'll have a hard time. It also just feels very basic and poorly created to me. Definitely more popular, but since when was the majority always right? That being said, Plesk has its quirks. It's too slow for my liking. None of them are perfect....
Definately cpanel though plesk is better for server administrator .I've used plesk and cpanel/whm but Plesk is kinda complicated control panel! Saad
