    Hi,

Why is it when I add a new addon domain it just redirect to the sub-directory instead of using the actual domain I entered?

    For example...

Let's say I have the domain firstdomain.com and I add an addon domain named "newdomain.com" in firstdomain.com, so a subdirectory is created named "newdomain"

But everytime I go to www.newdomain.com it just redirect to www.firstdomain.com/newdomain, I thought addon domain will use the actual domain I entered not just redirect to the sub-directory, am I getting this wrong?

so what you are saying is that you want to make abc.com after you already have 123.com under the same account correct? If you do an add on domain it should just be like you are using a totally seperate domain name. In no way should it forward to your old domain. Now if you make a subdomain it will go to abc.123.com

It has been a while since I did one of these. The process is confusing.

I think the step you are leaving out is setting the redirection when you do the addon domain. You have to create a subdomain that points to the directory and the addon domain points to the subdomain. (told you it was confusing)

Here are the steps per the cPanel documentation:

This is a very old message. If you are using cPanel 11 the process is very automated. The system will create the folder and name it addon-name.com.

Once you change the nameservers where it is regged you should go straight to it with the correct name showing in the browser bar.

I am proud of you for searching though. :)

What version of cPanel do you have?
