I have to speak up here about the life span of the webmaster referral cookie.

Of all the hundreds of affiliate programs I have been involved with over the years I have never heard of a 30 minute cookie for a webmaster referral.

If a webmaster signs up under me 31 minutes later, I get nothing.

You guys really need to either extend the life of the cookie to a reasonable time and/or reduce the percentage you pay out for referrals.

It is kind of disheartening trying to promote CPALead to other potential affiliates knowing the cards are stacked so hard against me. I am sure others here feel the same about this.

    Other than that, CPALead rocks.

    :D

In reality, it shouldn't take any longer then 30 minutes to fill out an application, in fact it probably shouldn't even take 5 minutes, the reason the cookie time is so short is to thwart abuse, we have had people in the past try and cookie stuff our referral link on THIS forum... Blame them for ruining it for everyone else

hmmm....it doesnt take 5 mins to fill out a form (this happens when you are referring someone who already knows something about cpalead ) but what if a guy wants to know about cpalead...assuming that someone clicks on referral link through my gateway in that case 99% of them wont signup instantly without knowing anything about cpalead it takes time to research about cpalead from various forums.....so a decent 1 week or atleast 2 days time should be there...

i agree with the cookie stuffing thing..but still keeping the duration to 30 mins isnt a solution for that...

Changing the cookie duration to 30 minutes isn't going to fix the cookie stuffing issues -- it will just keep legitimate referrals from being counted.

In reality, if you have someone see your gateway and click the link, are they going to immediately sign up? Do you immediately sign up and give your personal information, including SS#, to a website that you saw 15 minutes ago?

Of course not. If you're responsible, you click the link, do some research, read a few forums, find out if it's a scam, etc. THEN you go back and sign up if it all checks out. This research time will likely take much longer than 30 minutes -- could be a day or more in fact -- so limiting the cookie to such a "short" duration is "short"-sighted, IMO.

I referred a friend to CPALead. And he opened my link then flaffed around with a bunch of stuff like his site and reading about what CPALead actually does etc. And whadda yah know, he didnt get signed up underneath me.

Ive even sent requests to support about the issue but havnt heard anything back. But its suffice to say that 30 mins is no where near long enough. It would be like amazon reducing its cookie to 30 mins. Sure someone can land on amazon and buy the product within 30 mins. But does that actually happen in reality? People look around first, read up on their purchase then go ahead.

The way you describe the signup process. Its as though the people we are referring have to be good mates that we explain everything to them through MSN or something, and then they signup as they know everything they are getting themselves into.

The problem with TV sites (or for that matter any site) is that if the traffic is not organic (i.e. not through search engine), chances of conversion will be low. I have a TV site and a movie site. TV site is new and traffic comes mostly through forums and other communities dedicated to that TV show.

The problem is that it is not just me who is posting links on these communities. There are many people posting different links in the same communities, to watch the show's episodes. A visitor will click my link and come to my page to watch the new episode. But when he sees the gateway, he doesn't bother to complete the survey because the community from which he came to my page, has many more links to watch the same episode. So he knows he can always go back to the community and try the next link.

On the other hand my movies site is old and is indexed in search engines and I am getting good conversions. I am hoping the TV site will also get picked up soon.

Less than 3 business days. Typically within 1-2, at least from what I've seen.

I'm running an ebook site and I have noticed that the page loads slightly before the gateway does so if the user refreshes he is able to quickly click the "download" link before the gateway loads over it...

I'm using the official cpalead gateway wordpress plugin - any ideas of a fix?

(one idea i had was to add a countdown timer to the download link of like 10 seconds so that the gateway is loaded before the countdowntime shows the link?)
