Selling CouponShock.com - Web Hosting + Registrar Coupon Database

I started CouponShock.com in 2007 when I was a freshman in college. I have not had time to operate the website for sometime, and want to get it off my hands.

The idea behind the website is to create a central database of web hosting and registrar coupon codes. Coupon codes can either be added manually by the site owner and be linked to affiliate programs, or the coupons can be submitted by users so that the database can grow organically.

Back in 2007, I hired a coder to create a custom PHP/MySQL script to run the entire system. Please see the screenshots of the Admin Control Panel below. In addition, I hired a great web designer to give the site a flashy look and create a 468x60 advertising banner. I also paid for the site to be coded into xhtml/css and had a Wordpress blog integrated into the system. The total project cost was $800.

If I add in marketing and advertising costs paid out during the site's first year, the total cost is definitely higher. For example, among other marketing efforts, I purchased a lifetime link on whreviews.com which at that time was a PR6 website (now PR4). CouponShock.com held a steady PR3 for at least a year before some downtime issues, and it can easily be brought back up.

Since I have not actively maintained the website for the past year, pageviews and revenue are not admirable right now. However, at the site's peak, I sold several monthly text link ads for a total of $80 a month that was split 50-50 with Text-Link-Ads.com. Additionally, I made 10+ commissions worth 20-50$ each through various affiliate programs consisting mainly of Hostgator.com.

Script Details:

- Ability for users to submit coupon codes through website

- All submissions must be moderated and approved through Admin Control Panel. Submissions can be edited before approval.

- Users can sort coupons by Web Host. Each Web Host in the system has a special SEO-friendly link. For example: http://couponshock.com/coupons/HostGator/

- Ability for users to "Report" codes that no longer work. Reported codes will show up in the Admin Control Panel for review and processing.

Overall, if you work on the site, you will be able to earn your initial outlay back quickly. The design and system are excellent.
