    Hi everyone,,

i have a site which recently got ranked on google, i had built most backlinks to that domain which includes "www" in the domain,

recently i purchased articles submissions from someone and that guy didn't included "www" in the domain and now i have some backlinks for "non www" version which now got ranked on google page 1

i recently also selected preferred domain in google webmaster tool as www.mysitename.com(example)

so what would you suggest? should i build backlinks to www or non www version(non www version is ranked on page 1 for main and secondary keyword)

right now i have 280 backlinks to www.mysitename.com(example) and only 30 backlinks to mysitename.com(without www)

but domain with 30 backlinks is rankings on google.... but i want domain with www to rank as it has more backlinks and i think if it ranks its position will keep going up on page 1.

    any suggestions

    +reps for answers :)

As Dan says, you want to amalgamate the two into one site by 301 redirecting one to the other. So decide on one that you're going to use, and then make sure that any request to the other gets a 301 redirect to your chosen one. I'd also suggest you stick with the non-www site, since it seems to be ranking more effectively.

Just make sure you get a 301 redirect, not some horrible other type of redirect - like a 302, Meta, Javascript or Frameset redirect.

    thanks for the response,

yes non www ranked well but it has only 30 backlinks as compared to 280 backlinks of www version, so am bit confused which one to stick with now, i also recently selected "www" version in google webmaster tools as preferred domain,,

    any suggestions?

edit: as per your suggestion i just changed back url to non-www version using preferred domain option in g webmaster tools

I'd guess the 30 you've got pointing to the non-www one must be regarded as higher quality by Google, since it's chosen to rank that particular version of your site. Redirecting a link by 301 will always weaken the link - albeit ever so slightly - so it's best to do it on the links that matter least to you. In this case, since Google likes your non-www links, you should redirect your www links to your non-www site.

Just make sure you do 301 redirects, and ideally that you redirect each page on the www site to the same page on the non-www site. Then you'll have as little impact as possible on your www links.
