This poor cow was raped, and the only way the village could be "cleaned of the defilement" is to force the animal to go through a mock marriage ceremony, and then drown her at sea?

 

Now he knows to marry the cow first.

 

I thought this too. I'd drown the rapist, personally. ^-^;

 

If it was Bali, chances are they are Hindus or Buddhist. The cow will be reincarnated pure and get a fresh start.

 

I was thinking Hindu. My understanding is Cows are sacred creatures to Hindus. Another clue it wasn't Muslim is that human got stoned to death or a body part cut off over the incident.

 

Too bad the bride was murdered. They could have been a great family .....

may be the boy didn't get a girl friend and he was too needy r desperate to have sex and he might have hallucinated, just like an nomad for oasis in the deserts

j.f.r. Bali is an Hindu custom and not a Buddhist custom, usually Buddhist customs are non-violence in nature, so you could rule any violent r harm customs out of Buddhism (as far I have knowledge about Buddhism)
