Country specific indexing

    I would like some information on the following:

    I have created a .com domain with content that is only applicable to a specific country (not us based). The site is also hosted on a USA server.

    How can I direct country specific google bots to index the site, instead of the main US bot.

    I believe there is some syntax you can place within the <head> section of the site. Is this true?

    Hello, from the little I have learnt from books. Its best to have the site hosted in the UK (uk based servers). Also linking from UK based directories will help. I think if you signup to google you can use google maps to point to where your business is based (not sure)

    Why would UK based servers assist?

    The site in question is not targeting UK, it would target South African citizens.
    Anybody?

    I apologise, I might have jumped the gun slightly. Quite rightly said, host your site on webservers where your business exist. It helps but there is obviously more to it than that, there are other important factors.

    I think you should do 301 redirect to your site to a UK specific tld and preferably host to UK Server.

    If you write content in non .us language bot will recognize and send right ones.

    Register at Google Webmaster Tools and set the geo-targeting there.
    Other than that, if you can use a country-specific tld, it's a big help, and getting links from sites from the country you're targeting also helps.

    I imagine google would know the language of your site. If you are english, french, italian, spanish, german or mandarin the search engine is smart enough to know that and put you in the appropriate country search.

    For english I'm not sure how they would be able to distinguish you as Canada, US or UK. Perhaps your domain extension (uk, ca,)? I'm not familiar with google's geo location tools.

    It doesn't happen to me before you but try to block it on robot.txt for a specific google datacenter like google.us google.co.uk and etc.

    And if you are prioritizing country specific then try to get links from site hosted on your target country.

    What about if one of my sites is written in two languages? I mean English and Mandarin and is hosted at wordpress.com. What bot is to index my site? en. or ...?
