You are living the dream, you have a good job, you have money in the bank, and living the lifestyle, however, we are in the roaring 20s, then all of a sudden, the good times are gone (overnight) the stock market crashes, and all of your money is gone just like that... why would that be any different today? You may have a good job, you may have money in the bank (bingo) the keyword being "bank" ie: an institution having control of your assets/wealth, which means as long as you have money in the bank, you really have zero control... We live in an age where we are controlled by someone else, and normally by the rich and powerful! You think your money is just just because it is sitting in some bank that has far more money & power then you? One day you log into your bank account, and your wealth may have a $0 balance, and you say, Im FDIC insured, so I am good... The US govt has trillion dollar deficient! The US govt does not know how to manage money, and they piss it away to other countries for nothing in return, wasteful spending, pork barrel spending, etc.... So you really think the govt is coming to your rescue with money they do not even have in order to save you? Once the economy tanks, jobs normally tank also... Hope you have good job security so you can keep making the money you have already lost, because if your money is in the bank, you certainly have no control.... This is just one of those dooms day things you probably need to think about from time to time... IMO: Just because you live in the richest nation in the land certainly does not make you immune or safe from anything....
Actually, there were quite a few factors that led up to the Great Depression, it wasn't an overnight thing. The Great Depression was essentially a culmination of many things that all compounded upon each other, and eventually snapped. That snap kicked off the Great Depression, and the desperate years the followed were the consequences of that snap.
Could we have another depression? Sure, its definitely possible but its hard to say if it will actually happen. The future is too unpredictable to be sure. The trillion dollar debt is a huge issue and will take many years to fix if it even gets fixed.
