Could using banner links for text links cause a problem?

I've had a CJ account for some time, and have had around 200 clicks & no conversions. Now, I know thats not unheard of, but these clicks are extremely targeted - ie "click here to get a free trial from X"

Something I just realized: when I first got the ad code, I got code for a banner for this particular program... but I stopped using the banners & am now just using contextual text links (but with the clickthrough url from the original banner code)

Could this be a problem? if if there is no banner delivery to the same person who clocks through, is it possible that I'm not getting credit for the sales?

No it shouldnt be a problem if you removed all the code. or maybe i dont get what your saying.
On CJ try doing the ones that pay per lead, you might average better.

no, that's not what i mean.

basically, in CJ, you can search through links that you might want to put on your site for a particular advertiser.

if you select a banner link, you might get code like this:

    <a href="http://asdfasdf.com"> <img="sdfsfdsd.com/sdf.jpg"></a> (of course i'm simplifying it a bit)

i notice that there are "text links" that they offer as well, ie something like:

    <a href="http://fffdaffasdf.com"> click here to buy!</a>

(notice how the clickthrough link is different)

so, I used to put up banners, but now I just link from different parts of my blog in the stories. I'll say something like:

    ... and I really like <a href="http://asdfasdf.com">this product</a> myself.

notice i used the code from the banner link because I was too lazy to go find a text link from CJ. Now, there will not be a banner impression for that clickthrough.

DOes CJ look at this and say "hey, there was no banner impression, so something must be screwy... he's not getting credit for this one"

    ?

    Thanks for clearin it up...
but No, they dont check it. I do the same thing and get sales as well. I have been doin it for over a year in one of my blogs.
Where is your traffic from? Maybe the advertiser doesnt pay for certain areas if its a free sign up link where no one is charged. Check with them.

ok, thanks. My traffic is from pretty much 100% organic. some search engines, lots of direct, lots of digg & reddit.

How could they tell where the traffic on my site is coming from though anyways?

Well geo traffic, they can tell if the traffic to thier site from your site is all china....and hardly anyone accepts china or africa traffic..

Which advertiser is this? I would be interested to see their TOS...

Ok I just looked at your site. Very nice, also voted for you as well...
I checked out one of the links for 50 free songs, but its a long form and you need a credit card, I wouldnt sign up if i clicked your link and found that. So your doing everything right, its just people are lazy. You need to find something that will give the songs free for an email. I have seen those but you only make .25 but im sure you would make more with that than you do right now.
    Good Luck

    ok, thanks !

hmmm, it weird, I do tell people that they will need a credit card etc before the link. You'd think people would read ;)

My site gets 100-300k visitors per month and the only thing I can make money with is amazon, and not much at that. It's a good site, lots of good traffic & return visitors.

Obviously i'm doing something wrong, I need to crack the code on what will monetize the site :(

Yes, your links are working since they are tracking clicks.
If no one is buying maybe you need another product, it takes lots of experimentation to find what works.
Could also try tweaking your adsense if it is not performing well.
You have a cool blog, I like the 70s rockers with parents photos and the gadget orchestra!
