I'm thinking of starting a website which only publishes curated articles from a specific niche. (Best articles in that niche from around the web) As a leverage for writers to allow me to publish their articles on my website, I'll run Facebook ads on the articles, which will get them exposure, and at the same time, the ads will be driving traffic to my website. Could this be profitable? Money aside, what are your thoughts on this as a business model?
It's a great idea of a platform. I think it could be really interesting for bloggers/writers. It's beneficial ownership. So yes, it can be interesting as a business model. It's unique. And what about profit. How exactly are you going to monetize it?
Other than Adsense & affiliate links, I'm hoping big brands will be attracted to the site due to the fact that I plan on using a 'quality over quantity' approach, so by publishing 1-2 articles daily which get 100,000 views each through ads, my site should grow pretty quickly and hopefully get big brands wanting to create custom ads on the site. What are your thoughts? I'm trying to get as much feedback as possible before diving in
It sounds like an interesting idea but I don`t know what Google will think about all that duplicate content. (you are basically copying content from other websites). How do you plan on monetizing it? LE: Nevermind...we posted at the exact same time
I'm aware of duplicate content being bad for SEO but that isn't really an issue for my business model since it's ad based, meaning that 90%+ of the traffic will be paid for regardless of whether the site's SEO is good or not. As for monetising, other than Adsense and affiliate links, I'm hoping I can invite big brands to run ad campingns across the website and it's social media platforms since my target is 100k views per articles through ads, which is higher than any views-per-article of any publishing brands I'm aware of. Are there any major flaws I'm missing from the business model? Tryna get as much feedback as possible
As far as I`m concerned if you have an advertising budget large enough and if you get the content creators on board you should have success with the website. I also thought of something similar in the past but abandoned the project due to lack of time. Do your research and see if there aren`t any websites out there doing the same thing and you should be ready to start.
Thanks, I'll get the the research and business plan finished in the next few days. Also, it would be interesting to hear what angle/approach you were gonna take with your project.
In short: I planned on creating a tutorial website. Something like Wikihow and planned on monetizing it with Adsense at first. But like I said, because I lacked the time to invest in the project I abandoned the whole idea. I hope you have success with your project and it will be nice if you keep us posted with how things go
I think it can be very efficient strategy of monetization. But it's more time consuming and it's a long term tun. You'll have to get high traffic and promote your website so that these big brands could know about you. So you'll need a lot of time, patience and of course investments, but if it work you'll get success. And please share with us your plan if it's possible, it would be really interesting to learn your ideas.
No pain, no gain. When you start a bigger project you have to be 100% focused on it. Go big or go home, that`s why I abandoned the idea
Fully agree with you. Once I decided to start my own affiliate program and become an affiliate in a networks at once. Good experience. Painful but useful. Always concentrate at one thing at a time. Especially if it's such a big scale project.
It sounds like a good idea but that is just it an idea. An idea is great but it is not worth any money, so the question instead becomes what are the next actionable steps you take towards this business venture. You have the idea, the platform, the traffic source and monitization method now all you have to do is take action. Good luck with your venture.
