Could this be TRUE ?

I remember reading somewhere that if you manually submit your site via Google's submission page, Google adds it to it's que which may take up to 4-8 weeks for your site to get indexed AND its' rather advised that you let Google index the site by following links from other PR sites which may get the site indexed within a couple of days.

Is this a myth or the truth ?

I'd call it a myth. I usually see googlebot within a few hours/days of submitting via the add url link.

I have tryed both ways and I would say just getting backlinks to your site works better.

I am normally indexed within a few days if I get plenty of backlinks to my site.

I would go with "it is better to let google find your site from the backlinks".

I have never submitted a site to google. I just build backlinks from high PR sites and my sites are usually indexed within a week or less.

Your DP signature is the best tool available to get your site index fast or else just do few link exchanges with some high PR sites. That is it IMO.

Could it be that Google is taking their sweet time to index some of the pages especially after their last update ? I have been reading at various forums that although not banned, there are various sites which rank first in their respective keywords with Altavista/Yahoo, MSN yet have not been even indexed with Google yet after months ...

Its a myth! And the best way to get indexed is to follow Mia's link http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl

I've a new website which ranks well on msn for all my major keywords and i didn't submitted it to search engines! Didn't even applied a website promotion on it yet....

MSNbot have been on my new site in one day and indexed it within 3 days,
Googlebot have been on my new site and indexed it within 1 week - 10 days something like that,
    No news from Yahoo though.

I still think its faster with the Addurl stuff and Google Sitemap

i disagree still, the best and quickest way to get indexed is by way of backlinks, even with just being active on DP and having your link in your signature, your site can be indexed within a day or 2, if you already have a high pr site, and you link 2 new one, your site will be indexed within hours.

i agree with maldives - DP sig is FAST. I usually see them show up within a matter of days. But that's just getting them indexed - i think backlinks are essential to them being taken seriously in the SERP's.

Don't expect this TO remain like this for long. MSN usually gives good ranking for new and fresh websites but, it eventually disappears from the SERPS after a couple of weeks.

Make sure to continue link building process :D

i submitted to google via sitemap about a month ago for one of my sites.. created backlinks etc.. according to the sitemaps stats, all it says is no data for everything except pages indexed which says 11,800 pages indexed. not sure what's up with that because my site only has 1300 pages, which is what my sitemap has. I get some traffic for irrelevant keywords. Not sure whats up with it all. But my next sites I'm not doing a sitemap, or submitting it via the url. I'm just going to try backlinks.

I havn't gotten into yahoo.. was in MSN position 11, but they just dropped me today for my main keyword.

needless to say I'm having a search engine nightmare. but i get traffic from other place so my uniques are increasing.. and revenue is increasing.

    It's absolutely true...

I have gotten brand new sites indexed in half a day to a couple days by simply linking to it from a often visisted decent pr site i own.. As opposed to waiting weeks or more

There are several stories about that around.I think the point is giving a chance to google bot to reach your page, doesnt matter via submitting or anything else.

Well most of the domain registrar biggies maintain a personal whois database, also any new domain registered reflects in the ICANN database, this is accessible by the google bots and thereby your domain is automatically added to the googlebot queue,
Most registrars now issue an Auto Domain Parking Page in order for this to happen, earlier before the evolution of parking pages, the domain used to be dead by default, and the whois registry used to update, the spiders saw the update and would goto the site only to reach nowhere, and thereby drop that domain from future indexing, hence Google had the database addurl feature setup so that web masters could submit their domain for indexing once their websites had been setup on webhosts and were up and running.
Now after the eveolution of parking pages, auto whois updates et al, manual submission is no longer necessary.
    Hope you got your answer.

I agree also, but if you see googlebot in your stats, the day you added the link of your new site in a forum signature and googlebot has been through it... doesnt mean that it is already indexed!
Means that googlebot is gathering informations in order to index your website ,it usually takes a week to see your website indexed in google... MSN is faster when its about indexion tho...

;D!!!!! Lol, yeah, i noticed it also, msn loves new and fresh websites. Some people siad that to keep SERPS listings on msn you've to build backlinks and/or modify your content often, i believe thats true

So bad msn is just not that great besides google and yahoo :p, im sure everybody here have great listings on MSN!!
