I'm not too sure if my ad placement is any good, so could someone please review it: http://www.juxtaposing.com Thanks in advance
I really wasn't looking in that area. As soon as the page opened I starting reading the text in the middle of the site. It took me about 1.5 seconds to realize where the Adsense ads were (coming from someone who isn't into Adsense...yet)
Nice domain name. The right nav is infamously poor for converting, however, I have ads there on several of my sites and it performs pretty well. I'd include a 336 x 280 box at the bottom of your articles to start with - you could move it higher up the page to compare ctrs at a later date. I'd also include an Adlink unit in your left navigation, probably at the top. These normally convert pretty well there. If your article search is used then the 468 x 60 should get clicks but if it isn't there's no point that one being there.
Thanks a lot for the tips Kelvin, very much appreciated. At the moment it's going to be hard to see which ad units perform better as I'm still trying to increase traffic to my site. I only get about 20-30 unique visitors a day which means not many google clicks. Is it a good idea to have different channels for each ad unit so that I can see which is performing better? Also, any tips on increasing site traffic other than submitting my site to online directories? (already done that)
Surreal, I always set up a different channel for each different ad unit / placement I use. So with your current set up I'd have 1 channel for the 468 and 1 for the 160. Your'e right though to focus on traffic building rather than constantly tweaking placements when your site is still developing. Aside from directories: 1. look to related websites for link exchanges. The link exchange forum is a good place to start - http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=53 2. buy text links from related sites - try this forum: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=58 3. Submit articles containing your website link to article directories.- there's a list here: http://www.whichdirectories.com/article-niche-directories.htm There are more methods but these will give you a good grounding - improving your search engine placements and sending traffic directly to your site. Best of luck
As for swapping sides with the ads and the nav, I sort of see that as tricking people into clicking the ads. I don't really want that, although if my site started getting regular traffic I might give it a try. Thanks a lot for the tips guys
I've actually decided to completely remove the 160 skyscraper and put a 728 leaderboard at the bottom of my page. I'm going to work on adding a 250x250 into the content, just as soon as I figure out how to wrap the text around it
<table align="left"><tr><td>AdSense code</td></tr></table> Content... This is one of lots of possibilites.
But wouldn't the content then start below the ads? I kinda want the top of the content to be level with the top of the ads. Anyone know how I can do this?
No, the table (ads) will be on left or right side of content and the top of the content and ad unit will be the same. It is as you want... Try and you gonna see.
I stole the code from some other website and now I've got it working One last question: which are better out of 250x250 and 300x250? Is there any difference?
