Could someone glance at my code? (H1, H2 tags, validation)

Hi, first post amongst many to come.

I'm a photographer and have a site I've be working with for about a year now.

Everything was fine but I've asked a web guy to put a textbox in the site to help me make it more text rich.

    The original page is here:

The web guys version is here:
    http://www.chrisgilesphotography.co.uk/haywards-heath-wedding-photography2.html

The latter looks ok in Firefox, Chrome, Safari and IE8 (but in compatability mode only) switch it off and it looks like this:

So......asked around and someone said my code had a lot of errors and needed validating, so I validated it (W3C) and then reupped it here:

Now it looks ok....ONLY trouble is it removed the H1 and H2 tags.
Rightly or wrongly for SEO purposes I thought it would work well to encompass the menu in H1 and the Image gallery in H2 tags. Remove the H2 tag from the gallery and all displays fine.

Am I going wrong with the tags? I'm happy to do without the tags if general consensus is that they do nothing beneficial SEO wise in relation to my site, or if there is a better place to put them I'd love to know.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

    Chris

mmmm chris actually a H1 or a H2 tag don't make any browser compatibility issue.I think that problem may be with nested H tag or with CSS.Read your code carefully and use H tags with patience. And ya H tags help to win SEO competition so try to use H tags with care.

    Regards.

Thanks, I've added H3 tags to the text.
    It looks much tidier.

I can't seem to create any padding on the left of the text though. It's right at the edge of the grey frame.

Even if I use 'padding left 10px' for example.
