Hello all! Im in the design phase of my real estate website --- and I am going to be using a lot of scroll boxes to keep the page organized. One of the scroll boxes, will be dedicated to links.... out to partnered link trading real estate companies I notice most real estate websites put these links on the bottom of their page................ Could having 200+/- links in a scroll box --- somehow penalize your SEO? Thanks!!
A sound theory is to have no more than 50 outbound links per web page, I generally won't even go over 5 myself. Link exchanges are not the "proper" way to build backlinks, providing unique rich content is. In theory, if you provide rich content why wouldn't people want to link to it?
Now the thing is --- Im going to make this website awsome ---- it will be for Boston Condo Sales / Apartment rentals --- Some of my competitors have over 3,000 links and are in the top 5 on google for kw's such as "Boston Real Estate" --- and their websites are AWFUL i.e. -- see Fordrealty DOT net It appears they get links from these relocation companies out in idaho, alaska, wyoming, and everywhere else that has nothing to do with Boston......... and it works What do you think about this? THanks!!
I'm telling you the proper way to do it, the proper way will still have you out rank your competitors by the "quality" of your backlinks. What if Google does an aglorithm change in the future and decides to penalize sites with massive amounts of outbound links? Didn't consider that I'd assume, build you site according to the webmaster quality guidelines and nothing can stand in your way http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=35769
Absolutely -- Im actually not going to put any outbound links ( I thought about doing 2-3, possibly to Boston.com, and other big trusted websites) What do you guys think of that??
Hello... If i can make the suggestion that rather then using "scrolling txt links" (unless you use "no follow")that you do "scrolling banners" as then your still doing what you intend to do (send them traffic) without putting yourself at risk off "competitor snitches" or in googles view selling their sacred PR.... Ps..... the general rule of thumb is not have more then 100 per page in any SE... thx malcolm
Everyone says to keep your outbound links to like 5 and don't do link exchanges but I don't think that's 100% true. It sounds good in theory but if you look at a lot of sites in massive niche's almost all the sites have like 50+ link exchanges. I think exchanging links with 50+ sites holds more weight then 5 sites linking to yours. No one really knows the answer to that but looking at a lot of top 10 sites in google they all seem to have a ton of link exchanges. It's hard to prepare for the future. What if google changes their algorithm and gives sites with a lot outbound links more weight then sites with very few. I get what you're saying though but I think it's more important to optimize your site for google now and if they change anything then you can make the changes to your site if that ever happens. If not you may hurt yourself now waiting for something that may never happen. That's just my 2 cents though. Personally I wouldn't want to go to a site with a ton of link exchanges though.
