I was just thinking, could being on a trusted IP help your ranking? Like if you are on the same server as a trusted website (pr6+ or so) would you rank higher than on a website on a fresh server with no other websites? Just a thought
I'm not sure if that is the case, but I think the opposite is true. If you are on a server with a lot of sites that are considered "Bad Neighborhoods" you can be lumped in with them.
I think that IP can't effect on rankings only on local searches. But thought that IP of your server could boost or decrease your rankings is nonsense.
Nonsense??? This is a quote from Googles latest patent. Whether this is in place at this time, or if it ever will be is anyones guess, however, it is something they are considering [0101] Also, or alternatively, the age, or other information, regarding a name server associated with a domain may be used to predict the legitimacy of the domain. A "good" name server may have a mix of different domains from different registrars and have a history of hosting those domains, while a "bad" name server might host mainly pornography or doorway domains, domains with commercial words (a common indicator of spam), or primarily bulk domains from a single registrar, or might be brand new. The newness of a name server might not automatically be a negative factor in determining the legitimacy of the associated domain, but in combination with other factors, such as ones described herein, it could be.
I said that because how do you know when you are buying host is this host on the right side of neighbourhood
Check the policies of the host. Most will state what type of sites the will not host. Call them and find out. Do some research on how long the host has been operating Check several of the blacklisting email sites and see if the host is frequently listed. (Gives you an idea about their email policies) Stick with the reputable hosts. It's not always best to go with the cheepest. I'm sure this list isn't complete, I'd like to hear what other webmasters do.
Interesting question@ SEODan Im not sure too.. And also I totally agree with Adacprogramming. Bad servers with bad websites do at times, affect other websites running on the same server.
Someone on one of the other threads came up with this tool which might be pretty useful in finding if your IP is hosting "bad neighborhood" sites http://www.seologs.com/ip-domains.html Thread http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=151304
I think IP does not matter as well... Google already have lost of things to mind when it comes to giving PRs, why would they bother to check everyone's IP as well? and besides, I have to agree with the above posters that when buying hosting you wouldn't go to the company you first came across with.
