    Great thread.

I was just faced with this issue a few days ago. I'm doing a blog on a "popular" tv show. One of the domains I came across was (this is just an example not the actual domain name) "NBC-friends.com." I opted not to use the network moniker "NBC." I went with a different name like "friends-the-tv-show.com."

I'm assuming using the the tv network name in a URL would be a legal issue?

    Any thoughts?

As to the original question: Can Company X sue you? The answer is yes. As to whether they have a good case, that is another matter.

If you are going to use a trademarked item (slogan, name, character, etc) make sure you do not:

    1. Use it in a way that causes you to gain considerations, financial or otherwise.
    2. Libel (written) or Slander (spoken) the item's owner.

If you had a site called buyPEPSI.com and you talked about how super Pepsi is, it is unlikely Pepsi Co would mind. However, use it to put Pepsi in a negative light, that will change.

It all comes down to intentions.

I'm surprised that the company of the Anti-depression medicine Prozac has not sued for the domain name www.prozacbacklash.com as the name suggests there is nothing good about prozac.
