If I were to feature someones site/product on my website, could I get in trouble for this?

So, lets say I run a blog about computers (for example).
If there was a great ebook on how to run a computer, if I added a description of it on my site and then put a link to the page of the product, could I get in trouble for that?

    Rep will be given :)

I don't see how. You can link wherever online.

Legally you can not link wherever lilac2. There are still trademark issues that you would have to contend with.

    To the OP:

If you write a review are short description of this ebook your talking about, and provide a link, you are covered under fair use and you do not have any trademark issues to worry about. You can also feature a site on your blog and write a review of it and you would be ok. Just make sure you provide links as appropriate and you do not have any legal issues. Now, don't cross the line and use images or anything like that from the site, that would be violating copyright unless you have express written permission saying its ok.

But in your scenario you are fine.

Thanks for the great reply, hostlonestar.

If, for example, the computer ebook I was linking to had an ecover and I put that on my site (along with the description and link), would this be OK, or would I need permission?

    Thanks again.

That would probably depend on the judge if it came to that. In my personal opinion, I would call it fair use. Some people may see it as a copyright violation. That is a VERY gray area, and with a little bit of research (I don't have the time right now) you could probably find some case law that has been established in that respect.
