With all the hype around the latest pagerank update, and many people seeing drops in their PR, while others are seeing nice increases, I have to ask the question, could this be the start of something that Google has planned over the next few months? Let's look at it this way, it's obvious that people are still seeing good SERPs from the search engines even after they have seen major drops in their PR. What if this drop in PR was just a shot across the bow to say "We caught you, clean up your acts"? Over the next few months, Google watches the sites to see if things continue as they have, with "questionable" linking practices, "spammy" type links from sites know to be selling PR etc. Google then positions the complete de-indexing and de-listing of all sites that have not taken action to deal with things. Now Google then places a much higher relevance on PR and it begins to mean something again. Let's face it, the big "G" does have power in the search world, AND they can easily flex their might. Right now people are not too concerned about a drop in PR because it has not affected their bottom line or their revenue stream / traffic being brought in from the search engines??? Would the same people be screaming that this it isn't fair???? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, I wonder.
That's the way it works. If you get a shot across the bow then you will need to make the changes necessary.
that's true.. all you have to do is to improve the content and build some strong backlinks and leave it to google.. and luck also plays a major role.. .
Truth be told, I don't think Google likes you trying for a PR. All you need to focus on traffic and content. Lady Luck will shine on you
its not really like google to take the softly softly approach. I have usually found that if google catches u breaking the rules then they dont 'fire a shot across the bow', they just flat out penalise you and drop u from the serps. That is in all fairness their right of course.
Well I think you are speculating based on some observations. I don't think anybody knows what they are up to except those people at Google.
I don't think it's a conspiracy theory in the traditional sense. If anyone thinks that Google isn't a major player in this then think again. Maybe it's not a shot across the bow, but maybe it is a prelude to something that is being worked on and/or being implemented. There's no denying that some funky stuff went on this update, and sites that had gotten away with many "gray" area things have gotten penalized. I don't think there's any denying that good clean content, well designed sites, and good "relevant" backlists will win out in the long run, and that links obtained naturally will be weighted more. By no means am I an expert, but I have read many blogs and so-called "experts" who have criticized the big "G" for what has happened as of late, and their stance on many things that were once previously acceptable or accepted as "ok" by them. Is it just "G" cleaning up their act and trying to treat everyone equally in this game? It's obvious that they have flexed their muscle this round of updates, and personally, I think it's about time on some of the sites that I've been visiting in the last few months.
Yes, and excluding the people selling links from their sites, who cares about the PR at all? All you need is to please your visitors to return and work for more traffic = more sales...
i dont feel like pagerank and serps have much to do with eachother ... and remember that google has been taking away and giving PR for years now...
