To the student of counterinsurgency warfare, the war in Iraq has reached a critical but dismally familiar stage. On the one hand, events in that country have taken a more hopeful direction in recent months. Operations in the city of Najaf in January presaged a more effective burden-sharing between American and Iraqi troops than in the past. The opening moves of the so-called “surge†in Baghdad, involving increased American patrols and the steady addition of more than 21,000 ground troops, have begun to sweep Shiite militias from the streets, while their leader, Moqtada al Sadr, has gone to ground. Above all, the appointment of Lieutenant General David Petraeus, the author of the U.S. Army’s latest counterinsurgency field manual, as commander of American ground forces in Iraq bespeaks the Pentagon’s conviction that what we need to confront the Iraq insurgency is not more high-tech firepower but the time-tested methods of unconventional or “fourth-generation†warfare. more For the most part, and for the record, I'm pretty much against throwing more Americans into the breach but... An interesting article.. one wonders if such techniques might not also be successful in this case. What do you all think?
French tactics would get you out of Iraq, French are good at wawing the white surrender flag cause of their army training.
I have to agree with you. After all the French conquered almost all of Europe under Napoleon by surrendering right?
Nope, it was Napoleon. He was from Corsica, it was an independent nation that was invaded by france. They got indenpendence and where invaded again later on.
how did those french tactics work out when they went against muslim extremists in Algerian war for independence Not so hot because Algeria is independent now
French tactics? Iraq wouldn't be a problem because it would disappear under a cloud of dust as they ran for cover!
SHIIT! That was so funny! But they forgott to put som wars, like the first german invasion, the germans surrounded paris, they got some lands where germans lived in france. This is pre ww1.
If anyone is interested in the truth, rather than the continued hackneyed, child-in-the-sandbox rant from a position of ignorance, look into history. Here's a start, from the above source, googled: French Military Victories. One or two : -Many of these I wasn't aware of, and I enjoy military history.
France was and is involved in more wars than any other nation, and not as losers for most of the wars.
Napoleon Bonaparte arrived with more men (133,000 french vs 120,000 russians), that's a good point too I think
Well if you added something, Im going to add that im your real father, your adoptive father and I and some other guys used turns with your mother. But the DNA test confirmed it, Hi son
You are either: (a) about 5 years of age, with your mummy typing out your natty little thoughts; (b) a kid who gets beat up a lot in school; or (c) both.
using psychological warfare is the best method to counter insurgency. This is an enemy without a face. They can walk besides you or even eat next to you. They best is to win over the minds and hearts of the local people
