The cost of gas here in the US is in excess of 3 dollars. It doesn't affect me much because I sold my car after I went self employed and left my job. Peak oil is a scam, and if they want to keep raising the prices then I will simply not drive. I have ways of getting where I need to be.
It would be interesting to know what proportion of those prices are tax. It's around 70% in the UK at the moment (or maybe a % or 2 lower).
We are hovering around the one dollar mark here in Southern Ontario, which with the current Canadian exchange would come out to roughly $3.50 American. given current American prices there is still some saving to be had by filling up when I go across the border, but not a tremendous amount, considering my car possesses a 50 litre tank JP
On a related note, I have remarkably little time for people who complain about the price of gas, yet continue to drive their minivans, SUVs, or Hummers. JP
I agree to some degree, I have to drive vans, no honda civic or motorcycle I know of can hold my whole family safely.
um, I think it's up to like 8 bucks a gal over here in the states...course I don't drive, so those numbers are based merely on the convos I've overheard down at the E.O.A.C embellishers of america coalition.
I am a bit tired today, but I guess you are joking... sorry I may be a bit dense......... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Is that $350 a week, month or year? Anyway, 1 US gallon = 3.7854118 liters. $3.29 a gallon of regular unleaded here in the L.A. area as of yesterday.
$1.05 per litre here in Alberta. The Can dollar is up against the American dollar to highest level in 30 years, $1 CAD = $.90 USD. That makes it $3.58, USD. I like Venezuela very much, you have a great leader. We have as much oil riches here in Alberta, Canada, yet pay 25 times as much. Of course production costs are much higher, as are relative incomes, but I was sad when our gov't sold the public (canada govt owned) oil company. Bolivia also has the right idea, uh? Brazil as well. Oh, I want to mention that eventually enviornmental costs will be added. I think I have read that that could add a few dollars to each gallon, or maybe litre, of gasoline. Sorry, but reality is going to have to be dealt with fairly soon, and gas will be expensive, a nightmare compared to now. You americans are making my place rich, but I would rather have a living planet. I have mixed feelings about things the way they are now.
at present here in my country the gasoline per liter is about 40 Pesos...thats why I don't drive my car to office because its to high, I just ride the bus now
Latehorn, it is cheap in the US because you pay very few taxes at the pump, and also your oil companies pay very few taxes, comparitively to other countries. Also, production is cheaper because the regulations for pollution and toxic waste management are so lax. This will bite you very, very hard. Here and there. You save, the oil companies make record profits, and the atmosphere dies. You are saving now, but like I said, you are only delaying the point at wich you will have to really pay the costs. You also pay in other ways, for instance the health of americans is worse than other places, so you have to pay for medical. And, when oil energy gets expensive, as it will, then the price of everything will go up, because all manufacturing and production and shipping/transportation costs will skyrocket, and your economy will die. It is inevitable. So, start understanding the 'hidden' (enviornmental, political) costs now, or they will become due later and you will not be able to cope, economically, without grave consequences to your standard of living I don't think it is understood what 'addiction to oil' really means. It is very serious and scary, I thnk so.
