Former Judge Mark Ciavarella has been sentenced to 28 years in prison. He took bribes over the course of five years from a private detention center, amounting to over a million dollars. He unjustly sent children to the center for minor offenses. "The Pennsylvania Supreme Court tossed about 4,000 convictions issued by Ciavarella between 2003 and 2008, saying he violated the constitutional rights of the juveniles, including the right to legal counsel and the right to intelligently enter a plea."

Beyond Reason such a situation of Judges and Jailors profiting by the incarceration of juvenile offenders or anyone else.

The characters are bad enough but one has to wonder the logic of private prisons as being even an appropriate choice.

In Florida they have contracted private prisons over State Institutions as a budget matter to save money however just look at the lobbying by private prisons and the contributions to the politicians to find the answer to why it is being done.

The moral issue far outweighs the false issue of expense.
