Hi there, This is my first post on Digital Point and I plan to stay a while, but here goes my first question: I'm not completely new to SEO, online marketing or creating websites (HTML/PHP coder), but a completely new thing for me is Adsense. I want to start creating a blog or website, but of course, I don't want to begin in a bad niche. Now I wouldn't call myself an expert, but I'm sure I could learn a lot of people a thing or two about SEO and online marketing. Would a blog in this niche do good with some adsense ads? Another niche I'm thing about is films. I was thinking about creating a PHP based trailer website which won't take much time to maintain (only to create), but how would adsense ads do on a movie/film website? I've tried googling for this of course, and I believe that SEO/online marketing etc will have pretty good paid ads? But I can't seem to find anything on the other niche, this means it's not really a great one? Thanks for the help in advance! Sander (PS: My native language isn't english, so excuse me for any mistakes) (PPS: If I'm thinking in the complete wrong direction, you can also share! Perhaps really maintaining a website isn't profitable at all? I see many people who say to have different websites, you can't maintain all of them now can you?)
Well, here are my personal thoughts on this - 1. Firstly, there is nothing really like a bad niche. That being said, there are niches where you might have to struggle a lot if you want to earn only from Adsense. It sure is a good thing to look for a good niche by doing some homework beforehand. 2. SEO and online marketing are good niches, but highly competitive. This is a double edged sword - if you can make it decently big, it is a very lucrative niche (not just in terms of Adsense but affiliate marketing/other advertising too) and has a lot of potential. But you will definitely have to struggle quite a bit, especially in the initial stages. If you are looking for long term progress, it is not a bad idea. Some people hold the view that you shouldn't blog without being an expert in the field, but I don't fully agree. You can always share your own story. 3. Adsense is for content. Without content, it is hard to make money with Adsense. If you are going for a film website, make sure you have a lot of written words as well. That being said, there could be other ways to monetize a film website - perhaps others will know better. On the topic of having different websites, it is a very individual thing to decide. I know people with over 20 websites and people who find it hard to maintain one website. It is all up to you. I wouldn't necessarily consider one better than the other. Finally, good luck and welcome to DP
I'd suggest you pick a niche that you are truly interested in. If you pick something for the sake of trying to make money you'll fail.
Sign up also for an affiliate account with google and apply for netflix. Netflix is the best selling thing out there right now and would go great with the movie niche website. They pay anywhere from 12-17 bucks per sign up. Its awesome and they just extended there free trial period from 2 weeks to 1 month. It has work great for me and allot of my buddies.
