Here's my situation: I have a very popular blog, a humor blog, that's popular with people at work, extremely so in a particular niche. Websense (major corporate web filter) recently labeled it "Adult Content" due to the rough language (not porn), and I took a real hit in traffic. Proxies aren't working and people at their desks kind of fear them anyway. Could I redirect "xyz.com" to "NEWxyz.com"? Could I export "xyz.com" to "NEWxyz.com" and run two blogs simultaneously? (simple Wordpress "Kubrick" template) I am not too concerned with where I rank on Google because it's heavily word of mouth. My initial thought was to keep "xyz" intact and mirror it with "NEWxyz" and try and NOINDEX the whole new domain...(not linking the two anywhere) - unsure of how feasible this is. My other thought was can a redirect to the "NEWxzy" achieve this and bypass the filter. If this is, indeed, possible, I assume some tweaking would have to be done. But would that tweaking be overwhelming?
I don't think any of that would handle the problem, in that, content filters crawl the content of the blog, not just the domain. I think you need to come up with a way to allow your readers to still get your content, without triggering those filters, or drawing the attention of work place work place internet cops. Email subscriptions, Twitter, or maybe even check this out : http://plusmo.com/badge/badge_welcome.shtml
Thanks. Know what I did? I was so flummoxed as to how to backdoor everyone, that I got an absurdly simple idea. I contacted WebSense and made an honest plea, put it all out there as to why we're not Adult Content. They then recategorized my site to its previous category. What a relief. I'll check out those options, still, thanks.
Great! I know what you mean, sometimes we get so involved with technical issues, that the obvious (and many times cheapest),fix is right under our noses.
