Well you must be creative, have good writing skills. You need to get an internship, and to do that you must have a good work portfolio.(an ad book) I hope my response wasn't pointing out the obvious, but you did say that you were a newbie.
well if you are a newbie and you need some attention through copywriting well then consider two most popular copywriter of internet media problogger.net and copyblogger.com. visit there site ofent and see what they got.
As long as you have passion for it, a genuine style and flair for writing and can produce a quality product at a reasonable price, you can start up on your own. Due to the number of "cheap" services out there (there are many that provide sub-standard text for pennies - usually scraped from somewhere else and put through a spinner of one kind or another) it would be best to focus on a specific niche or business and dedicate your services to that. Focus on basic SEO when it comes to word count and keyword usage, and the quality of the work will speak for itself. I started GCW in 2010 with one client, with just the core SEO skills I'd picked up myself through blogging. I now have a busy day of writing for numerous clients and have a full-time income. I started out charging little, in order to compete. But the results speak for themselves and I now receive 90% of all new clients through recommendation. Many of the posts I write for clients appear in the first two pages of Google for their targeted keywords, and Google image search for those terms are packed with results for my clients too. I don't do anything remarkable, I just produce text and image posts which conform to Google's ideals. One thing I discovered when I began blogging for others is that you really need to have people come to you. A lot of webmasters still don't believe that text is as important as it actually is. They think they can skate by with 100 words on a post or page and that stuffing it with a keyword will help them. The truth is only a select few really understand the importance of text, they're the serious webmasters, and they are the ones you want to work with. As long as you can write, and you have a basic understanding of SEO, you can find your own market and offer a service. That's what I did, and that's why I'm doing something I love, from home, building a good business. If you need any help or advice, feel free to PM me. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have.
1 Read books on copywriting to learn the fundamentals of copywriting and what types of advertising works. The best copywriting books can be found in almost any bookstore, but can be found cheap at places like Amazon or eBay. 2 Study different types of copywriting to understand what is available and what type you would like to write. Copywriting can be done for local businesses, advertising companies, or strictly through the internet. 3 Decide on a type of copywriting you like, and choose a niche topic. If you like golf, for example, study copywriting in the golf niche, paying attention to what kinds of copy sells the best. 4 Practice writing copy like sales letters, brochures and web content so you can get the feel for writing sales copy. Pick a few of your best samples, and put them in a portfolio to show potential clients. 5 Contact ad agencies, local businesses and Internet marketers when looking for clients. Internet marketers need sales letters, landing pages, email campaigns, banner ads and other types of copy written for websites. Local businesses can use a copywriter for brochures, advertisements, direct mail and their websites. Ad agencies can use copywriters when in-house copywriters are away, or if they have an overload of work.
