What exactly does a copywriter do for websites...meaning what benefits / services do they normally provide?

Copywriters help you persuade your visitors to do an action that you want them to do such as buying an item, signing up for a membership or free information, etc. :)

Would they normally also do e-mail campaigns, etc? Or do they stick to website content only? Thanks for the fast response by the way!

It can be email marketing, web copy or even marketing sales letters (I do a lot of those).

Cool. What are the usual fee's a copywriter gets? I'm not very familiar with it (as you can probably tell) so please excuse my stupidity so to speak. Are there normal rates or do they vary from copywriter to copywriter? Also, what should I look for in a copywriter?

    Thanks for your responses.

A versatile copywriter generally warrants more pay for rendering services. Look for copywriters who are creative, industrious and easy to work with.

I have no doubt about that. Can anyone recommend a copywriter who works in the real estate market?

Question is - do you have money to hire a good copywriter?

I outsourced copy when I was getting started and I sometimes
got such idiotic, girlish writing I had to roll up my sleeves and do
it myself. Now I take on copywriting jobs from time to time -
but only if the client is serious enough.

I guess it all depends on how much they cost...again, I'm not too awful familiar with these things so I am trying to learn more. What do you normally charge and with that...what all would someone get?

Hi there. The rates differ from one copywriter to another. Better request a quote from each copywriter instead. But in general beginners are more affordable, experienced generalists a little more expensive, and you should expect to pay good money to specialists.

If money is not an issue, I recommend you hire a specialist since a real estate copywriter is already familiar with the field and your market. But there are also copywriters who can write copy for diverse markets (not necessarily real estate) yet provide you with good results so long as you provide them with the right materials they can work with.

    I hope that helps. :)

Rates can vary wildly in the copywriting field. This is not just because each copywriter is different but also because each project is different. :) I write copy and content and my rates are based on a lot of different factors. There are very few projects that I am able to respond with an "I charge XXX for that." :) If you are looking for specific help, it might help us to know more about what you are hoping to accomplish.

Oh and that too. :) Often, copywriters will just give you quotes or ballpark estimates unless you provide them with specific details of the project.

    Great information, thanks everyone!

I am looking for a few things:
    1) Making my homepage more enticing and getting people to take action from it.
    2) Getting my Sell Your Home page to be more enticing and getting people to take action from it such as signing up.
    3) Setting up 3 different e-mails to send to users who sign up for my Free Account to encourage them upgrade to a paid plan.
    4) Possibly writing some text for various upgrades being offered during the sign up process. This would be part of the registration wizard process.

Is that enough detail? If not let me know and I'll try to provide more.

    Hi,
I'm a copywriter in Australia and stumbled across this post. I have a fair bit of experience in the Real Estate writing department, and have actually written very similar copy for a Real Estate site down here.

I'd be happy to help you out. If you want to send an email to andie (at) theredcaboose.com.au I'll give you a proper quote and send you some samples. The advantage being you can take advantage of the economic climate on this one and pay $AU instead of $US!

Cheers, hope to hear from you soon.

Looks like you may be looking for a press officer.

I am the press officer for Ireland's leading electronic music company and my job entails writing press releases, website articles, sending info to potential customers via mailing lists, getting mentions in to the local and national press, pushing the profile of the company etc :)

The above all leads to more sales for the company of course..
