Hello, I am actually applying for a copywriting position and all they are asking is the following: "Write us a sales letter on why you're a good candidate for this position. Make it a tight sales letter about why we should consider hiring you for this position." Here is my sale letter that I am thinking of sending off. Please check it out at: Keep It SEO Simple: Application Letter For Copywriting Position But, I am very interested in having your input please be completely honest with your review.
It isn't going to do the trick. The dollar trick is OLD. Really, really old. The other really old trick is to send the resume in a pizza box. You're going to need to be more creative and your hook needs to be how hiring you will benefit the end user, the company who is looking. Using a generic prop like a dollar bill doesn't really say anything about you.
Yeah, Webgal is right. Try something more original or send them 100$ instead of 1. THAT should get their attention. Anyway there are some little mistakes. Seeing the line of work you are applying for, you should be extra careful. I felt that you should de-emphasize yourself and what you want a little bit and emphasize the company and how you can serve them a bit more in the letter. Also why did you include an article writing testimonial? Isn't this for a copywriting position? Might be to enforce the fact that you have good writing skills, copy or otherwise, but to me it feels like sending chemist testimonials to apply for a biologist job because they are both science. [Couldn't think of a better analogy] Also, what is the headline? I hope it's not "Application Letter For Copywriting Position".
Yeah, it seems to me like it's laid out too much like a letter, and less like sales letter. Perhaps try this: Step back for a minute and clear your mind. You are working at your desk, in your high paying job. You work for an HR / headhunting firm. Your company offers an option to your clients looking for new careers, to pay extra to have them featured to all your relevant job leads. You have to take the package on your desk (which is a personal bio and resume of a client) and write a sales letter to broadcast out to all of the HR execs and managers who are looking for employees. You get paid a bonus if your client is hired, so obviously you want to do a good job of selling this person to prospective employers. Just as if it were a tangible product such as an MP3 player, you must construct a sales letter featuring the client. Of course, this client ends up being yourself, but sometimes it's easier to do a good job on something like this if you try to take a step back into the 3rd person, and put yourself in the mind of your customer.
