Copyrighted movies shared online

    What kind of trouble would I get into if I upload a Hollywood movie on my website?
    Will I get fined? Will it be removed by the web hosting company?

    Also, I don't understand how some sites, if not, illegally have movies for people to watch for free, like, putlocker or megashare. But if they have permission, there are still other sites that illegally have movies online, right?
    How do they get away with copyright issues? Are these people very hard to find?

    Thanks =)

    Google "Kim Dotcom FBI" and find out what "could" happen.

    Thanks sarahk
    Dotcom's fileshareing business was Megaupload were they said he earned a substantial sums of money. He had 100's of videos, child pornography, terrorism propaganda. He had a lot of doo-doo on him. Would anyone bother if I upload 3 movies?

    I guess it all depends on the guy who finds you... did he have a row with his wife that morning? is he a petty person? is he thorough?

    If you are only doing it for 3 movies where is the benefit for you?

    It seems a stupid risk to take for minimal gain. A bit like the guys who use a gun to rob a convenience store and get away with $100. Same penalty when you get caught as if you'd stolen 1 million.
    And if it's on your website as a download how do you decide who can see it there and who can't?

    So, all those movie sites gained permission to stream them online?

    Some will, some won't.
    As a consumer you'd do well to make sure you are using one that is
    As a supplier, there is a huge barrier to entry to become a reliable supplier of movies legally or not.

    The Hollywood studios are active in finding and taking action against sites illegally hosting their movies. If your site is easy for them to target (ie not hosted in country like Tonga or Belize) then they can easily go after you. Why wouldn't they?
