In adsene policy (https://www.google.com/adsense/policies) it says: What does Image Results mean? Anyone has any idea?
I think that they mean copyrighted pictures where you are not the copyright holder. On a related note I have seen a site that contains material that would be copyrighted in the USA, but is hosted in a country where this probably does not apply. They have AdSense ads, but are they violating the rules?
Image copyrights are a tough cookie and should definitely be approached cautiously. Even though the person is hosted in another country, any work is already copyrighted at creation and most if not all countries are subject to the Berne Convention. So the safest thing would be to get permission from the author/creator/artist for use of their works on your site. That way you won't be in violation of the copyright. It's sad to see that most Webmasters are of the opinion that "if it's online, I can use it". That's not how it works. You as the webmaster have the responsibility to obtain the necessary permissions. It's not up to the author to prove copyright, or to go around trying to find people who use their works and then ask them to remove it from the sites. Simple: If you don't have permission, don't use it!
That means that we can not have adsense on pages where there are images?? Or should i have to find out who the pic is from, mail them for permissions and then use them? As i understand from the policy, it says clearly that it should not be used in pages with images!! Is that possible.. I don't know a single page without an image.. How does that apply?
Every image on a web site that you publish has to be one that you have a legal right to use. My web sites only use images that I have created myself, or that come from sources that give free permission to reuse, or in a few cases where I have been given explicit permission to use images created by others. I think that Google are concerned about sites that contain images for which you don't have permission to use.
It seems that you can have them on image galleries. The main thing is that you should have written permission from the authors for use of the images. I think their policy refers to some type of SE for image searches and such that serves images from other sites without their permission.
So if for example i have a site with images... will google cancel my account as soon as they notice it or will they send me an e-mail asking for me if i have the permission to use them? because if the first happens that's not fair since they don't know how i have them, right?
