The site I am looking at ishttp://www.groovle.com/, more specifically http://www.groovle.com/browse/sports/nba/detroit-pistons/100609/ Notice at the bottom it reads "All sports logos are the property/copyright of their respective owners/organizations. Groovle.com claims no ownership or rights over these images. All Images are hosted for fans of each team/organization." Is this legal? I'm wondering because I have a website and I want to use sports logos like this as well as movie logos...etc. I do not charge money for use of my site, and I don't make any money directly from the logos.
You need permission - a disclaimer doesn't give you a "right to use". You wouldn't want someone else being able to use your articles, artwork, photos without getting your permission.
nope, it's illegal to do what he did. I worked for a sports memorabilia company for 3 years as an advertiser. We were not allowed to use ANY logos, period. When doing graphic design, I even had to block out the New York Yankees logo (the intertwined NY one) out of the player's caps, we were not allowed to use the word "Yankees" in text. The trademark law for those sports related things are very vicious.
Okay..thanks guys...I was hoping it was going to be okay, but I'd rather be safe. Looks like I'll have to come up with another idea. Thanks
