Can someone give me the lay-person's answer to this question, Can code be copyrighted or trademarked or patented and how do you go about doing it?

What is the test for being able to do this?

    thanks

Code (in the form of a completed product/script) can be copyrighted. As soon as it's created it is automatically copyrighted, but you might want to have it officially copyrighted as well.

any thing that you create is copyrighted provided you can prove that you invented it. it would be good to officially copyright it but that only helps in court.
