I've received a copyright file infringement notice as well as settlement fine of $200 is levied upon me. Should I pay ? I've already removed the file.
1. Delete the content of your original post above. It is easily searchable and will be here forever if you don't edit it out. 2. The settlement, using the info in that post, does not even appear to be available or accessible. Perhaps you just changed the password in your post. 3. It is very unlikely that they would try to personally serve you and sue you since you are in India. That being said, it appears you are posting/hosting/using their client's porn movie that you neither own or have permission to post. If you continue to do that then you are likely to end up getting more of these notices and at some point, you might get sued. I would take this a serious warning that your business model of using other people's content is not a wise one. I do not offer legal advice online, and could not read the settlement they offered, so would be unable to offer competent advice in any event. However, I can tell you if it were me, and I lived in India, I would probably not bother to pay as the chances of being sued are minimal. I would, however, certainly cease having websites that use other people's copyrighted content. You are just asking for trouble. They seem to be associated with real law firms and there is a possibility, however remote, that they would try to sue you. p.s. I can only assume, since it is currently down, that the site you have in your signature is also an blatent infringment of ebooks you do not own the right to give away. Giving away other people's copyrighted material is, as I mention above, just daring people to sue you.
Thanks, I've removed the content from the post as well as removed the signature link (which someone had rented long time back).
Yeah. Here in Europe, or anywhere other than the United States (for that matter), we live in the Paleolithic Era. Copyright... what's that? A rock band? P.S.: Yes. I am being ironical.
Ever hear of the Berne Convention? It is an international agreement governing copyright, which was first accepted in Berne, Switzerland in 1886. According to Wikipedia, as of September, 2008, there were 164 countries that are parties to the Berne Convention.
