Copyright Free Pictures

    Hi all,

I've been adding some content to a site of mine and feel that a couple of images here or there would really make the difference to readers visiting, but I don't have any pictures at hand nor have I the time to gather them myself. What I really need is a place that produces or offers copyright free images to use on my various projects.

I imagine there is a ton of places for this so all input would be much appreciated :) Looking forward to many responses!

    Thanks

There are very few copyright free images.. There are Royalty Free copyrights.. Which is what your looking for.

The best sites for these are Dreamstime.com, 123rf.com, and istockphoto.com all images from these sites range from 1-3$ about (depending on size usually) You may use them how ever you like but you just cant "re-sell the images to someone.." But you can use on any website or edit for any project.

If your looking for 100% Free royalty free images try SXC.hu But as they are free the quality of images and search results aren't as appealing as the sites above..

Another good idea is to search for images on DeviantArt.com and ask the artist if you can use it and credit the image with their name and/or portfolio link. -(this is the best way to get top quality images with good search results 100% FREE.) But make sure you get permission from the artist before your set on an image!!!!

I've found a lot of photos on DeviantArt. Just ask the artist permission before you use the image!

What about Creative Commons? This is a licence created for those that choose to openly share their work with others, kind of like open source software but for images and videos instead.

You can search for them on flickr. Simply click on advanced search, type in your search terms, then IMPORTANT step, scroll to the bottom and click the box that says Only search within Creative Commons-licensed content I reccommend also ticking the Find content to use commercially box and if you intend to modify it also tick the box underneath marked Find content to modify, adapt, or build upon

The only requirement is that you attribute the work, which typically entails keeping the original title of the image if there is one and providing a link back to the owner. I also drop a comment in the comments box for the image thanking the owner for sharing it and leaving a link to the page where I used the image.

I'm only new to this so if anything is wrong please let me know, preferably with a source.
